An 18-year-old man is behind bars after a shooting near Sparks that investigators say ended with him tossing the weapon. Deputies were called Sunday to the 800 block of Wake Forest Lane, near Horizon Boulevard and I-10, where they found signs of gunfire but no one waiting to talk about it, according to law enforcement. The suspect, identified by authorities as Cesar Galindo, is being held at the El Paso County Downtown Jail on a combined $45,000 bond. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to call 915-832-4408.
How Deputies Zeroed In On A SuspectEl Paso -
As the investigation moved forward, deputies tracked down a vehicle they believed was tied to the incident and pulled surveillance video that helped them lock in on a suspect. Interviews with witnesses and the execution of search warrants eventually led investigators to Galindo, who they say admitted he fired shots in the area and later discarded the firearm, according to KFOX14.
Charges And What They Mean
Galindo was booked on counts of deadly conduct and tampering with physical evidence. Under Texas law, deadly conduct can be charged as a Class A misdemeanor or a third-degree felony, depending on whether a firearm was discharged toward people or property, per Texas Penal Code §22.05. Tampering with or fabricating physical evidence is addressed in Section 37.09 and is typically treated as a third-degree felony when the item involved is not a human corpse, with potential prison time on conviction, according to Texas Penal Code §37.09.
What Happens Next
Galindo remains in custody while detectives continue their work and prosecutors weigh formal charges and court dates. Investigators are still looking to fill in the gaps, and the sheriff’s office again urged anyone with video or information about the incident to contact them at 915-832-4408, per KFOX14.
