Baltimore's Artscape festival is lining up a major soundtrack for its 2026 run with The Roots and Stephanie Mills slated to headline. The announcement was made by Mayor Brandon M. Scott, partnering with the Mayor's Office of Art, Culture, & Entertainment (MOACE) and Create Baltimore. Scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, May 23-24, the festival is prepped to not just draw in crowds but also bring in a hefty economic punch for the city. According to a statement obtained by the Mayor's Office of Baltimore City, attendees won't want to miss what's billed as a bigger and better than ever event.

Following a successful previous year, which saw an average of 60,000 daily attendees—a 15% uptick from 2024—Artscape is looking to absolutely build further on that momentum. The festival has proven to be a boon for local businesses and culture, driving a significant $8.8 million in economic benefits last year. The myriad of festival programming, including the popular Scout Art Fair, churned out over $74k in revenue directly back to local artists. These figures highlight a dynamic growth and a winning strategy for leveraging the arts as a key driver for the city's economic development.

Create Baltimore's CEO, Robyn Murphy, emphasized the organization's role in connecting creatives with opportunities and scaling up Baltimore's arts scene. In a statement, Murphy told the Mayor's Office of Baltimore City, "When we invest in arts and artists, we invest in the best that our city has to offer, and the return is exponential!" Artscape's programming blends accessibility with high-end culture, ranging from kids' activities to the more avant-garde Scout Affordable Art Fair, all while keeping its grassroots core intact.

The partnership between MOACE and Create Baltimore seeks not just to continue but also to magnify the festival's success. Beyond the promise of headlining acts, this year's Artscape promises an enriched attendee experience with more public art and interactive components.

The call for festival participation is already swinging into full gear, with applications for vendors, performers, and sponsors now open. Deadlines for early bird applications land strikingly close on January 25, with the final deadline lining up for February 20.
