The Thornton Police Department has launched a homicide investigation following an early morning incident that left one man dead and another injured amidst gunfire. According to a social media post from ThorntonPD, officers were called to the 9600 block of Huron Street just after 4:30 a.m. on January 14, arriving on the scene in time to chase a suspect vehicle spotted fleeing the area, which they eventually immobilized using a precision technique.

A 35-year-old male, struck by gunfire, was found at the scene and transported to the hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, while a high-speed pursuit ensued after responding to a call reporting gunshots and ending with the deployment of the precision immobilization technique (PIT), stopping the suspect vehicle near West 56th Avenue and Federal Boulevard. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered four occupants, one of whom was found dead from gunshot wounds. His identity has yet to be revealed pending confirmation from the Adams County Coroner’s Office and the notification of his relatives. The other three occupants are now in police custody, one having attempted to escape on foot before being apprehended.

The initial investigation suggests that there was an attempted forced entry into a home that then escalated into a confrontation where shots were fired, according to the Thornton Police Department. No officers from their department discharged firearms during the altercation. It was also highlighted that this is still an open investigation and thus details are subject to change as more information becomes available.
