Memphis has witnessed the unraveling of an alleged scheme within its healthcare system, as three former caregivers find themselves facing serious charges. As the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reports, Lakesha Albright, Erika Humphreys, and Yosha Fletcher have been indicted on counts of TennCare fraud and theft of property. These charges stem from a probe initiated by the Medicaid Fraud Control Division's special agents, who began digging into allegations of fraudulent time records following a tip-off from the TennCare Office of Program Integrity.
The investigation, which launched in June 2024, uncovered that the trio of caregivers had been employed to provide in-home services to a physically disabled TennCare member. However, it has been alleged that from January 2022 through June 2024, Albright, Humphreys, and Fletcher concocted a fraudulent scheme, submitting time records for hours they did not work, thus garnering pay under false pretenses. This case serves as yet another reminder of the vigilance required to protect the integrity of public health programs.
Earlier this January, a Shelby County Grand Jury returned the indictments against the three women. In swift succession, law enforcement moved to apprehend the accused. Albright was taken into custody on January 21st by the Memphis Police Department, while Humphreys and Fletcher found themselves in the grasp of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office two days later. All three were booked into the Shelby County Jail, as the machinery of justice churns forward.
