A trio of suspects linked to gang-related activities has been arrested in Fillmore, following a string of burglaries and thefts, detailed in a recent report from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. In an event which transpired on January 14th at approximately 11:35 AM, a Fillmore Station deputy was dispatched to investigate a theft of gardening equipment.
According to the sheriff’s office, the culprits did not stay unidentified for long. Supported by the community partnership, deputies responded to a call about a white van linked to the theft in a Fillmore neighborhood. After a swift traffic stop by the California Highway Patrol near Main Street at Telegraph Road in the neighboring Piru area, the law enforcement's collaboration led to the discovery of the stolen items, as well as burglary tools and controlled substances.
The gang-affiliated suspects, Kevin Melgar of Pasadena, Jesus Rodriguez of Compton, and Rogelio Bribriesca of Tujunga, were detained. Melgar, 41, was found to possess an active felony warrant and previous convictions, bolstered by his recent gang conspiracy involvement and grand theft charges. Rodriguez, 31, was on parole with a history linked to shooting offenses, and Bribriesca, 27, was monitored for post-release supervision due to past burglary charges. All three were taken into custody by the Fillmore Patrol and Detective Unit alongside multiple assisting agencies, including the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation, the Los Angeles Probation Agency, and Sheriff’s Dispatch.
Diligently combing through the evidence, detectives ascertained a connection between both Melgar and Rodriguez and a grand theft case from December last year. The investigation concluded with booking at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, facing charges that included Criminal Gang Conspiracy and Street Terrorism, as reported in the sheriff's office statement. Ventura County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for further information on the crimes, encouraging the caller's anonymity and direct engagement through their tip line.
The arrests highlight the aggressive pursuit of law enforcement against gang-related crime and exhibit the vital role of community vigilance and participation in curbing illegal activities. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office extends gratitude to the public for their indispensable cooperation and advises that updates on criminal activity be sent through various social media channels, including the Nixle alert system. Sergeant Jarrod Foote and detectives Axel Morales and Dustin Heersche have been mentioned for their collaborative efforts in preparing this news release, as noted on January 15th, 2026.
