Time Out Market Boston, a food hall in the Fenway neighborhood, is set to close on Jan. 23. The 27,000-square-foot space at 401 Park Drive houses several local food vendors and two bars, all of which will cease operations, according to CBS Boston. The market featured eateries such as Ms. Clucks Deluxe, Cusser’s Roast Beef & Seafood, Taqueria El Barrio, and others.
The closure follows several restaurant shutdowns across Massachusetts in recent months, linked to pandemic-related challenges and broader economic factors. Time Out’s Miami location closed in 2023. The Boston market was part of a global expansion by the London-based Time Out Group, which publishes city guides internationally. Since opening in 2019, the Fenway location experienced frequent vendor turnover, which Boston.com reported was likely affected by the pandemic. The future use of the Fenway space after the market’s closure has not been announced.
The closure aligns with broader activity in the Fenway area, where the Boston Business Journal has reported an increase in commercial vacancies. The nearby REI store is also expected to close in the coming year. Recent closures in the region include longtime local businesses such as Twin Donuts, which operated for 70 years, as well as chain restaurants like Uno Pizzeria and Bertucci’s, both of which have undergone downsizing and bankruptcy proceedings.
The Fenway neighborhood, located near Fenway Park, continues to experience changes in its dining and retail landscape. The closure of Time Out Market and the future use of the former Sears warehouse space have not been announced. Requests for comment from Time Out and the property owner, Alexandria Real Estate Equities, have not received responses. The closure affects vendors operating within the market and their employees, who may need to seek opportunities elsewhere following the shutdown.
