A two-alarm fire tore through the Windmill Creek South apartment complex in Metairie on Tuesday, drawing a heavy response from area firefighters and sending thick smoke into the air. Crews had the blaze under control by about 2 p.m., and officials reported no injuries as investigators stayed on scene to sort out what happened.
According to NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune, units from the East Bank Consolidated Fire Department rushed to the complex as the fire intensified, with photographers capturing images of heavy smoke while crews worked to keep the flames from spreading.
How Firefighters Responded
East Bank Consolidated Fire Department officials upgraded the call to a two-alarm fire, which brought in additional ladder trucks and engine companies to the scene. That boost in resources allowed firefighters to get into multiple units, hit the fire from several angles, and knock down hot spots while also checking on residents and keeping nearby buildings protected.
Investigation Under Way
The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, and authorities have not released estimates of the damage, according to NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune. Investigators remained at the complex after crews wrapped up their work and said they would share more details once they have them.
