In Hamblen County, two young men accused of involvement in a shooting that resulted in the death of two teens during a party appeared in court for their initial hearings. During the early hours of a weekend gathering, authorities allege that 18-year-old Adam Perez Jr. and 19-year-old Talan Trevathan played roles in the fatal incident. Perez is facing charges for two counts of second-degree murder, whereas Trevathan is charged with facilitation of the same offense, WBIR reports.
According to law enforcement's account, gunfire erupted at an Airbnb property on Old Poplar Ridge Road, where multiple teens and young adults, hailing from several counties, were convened. The Hamblen County Sheriff's Office indicated that two other individuals suffered injuries in the event, though not life-threatening. Surveillance footage played a crucial role in the investigation, as reported by WVLT, which confirmed that Perez allegedly shot both victims, and Trevathan apparently provided post-incident transportation for Perez, and displayed a firearm during a confrontation.
Additional details provided by WATE indicate that approximately 25 to 30 people were in attendance at the party, with many guests being juveniles from surrounding areas. The tragic outcome of the evening left a 19-year-old and a 16-year-old dead, casting a somber shadow on the rural community.
Both suspects were detained without bond and made their initial court appearances this past Tuesday. Hamblen County Sheriff Chad Mullins commented on the senselessness of the violence, declaring, "young innocent lives were taken for no reason," according to statements obtained by WBIR. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has joined with local authorities to further scrutinize the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident. As the community grapples with the repercussions of the shooting, the two young men will reappear in court for a bond hearing.
