The U.S. Marshals Service has successfully apprehended Edward Macias, a man implicated in a series of bold and violent crimes in San Jose, including robbery and carjacking. According to a press release from the U.S. Marshals, Macias was taken into custody by the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force (PSWRFTF) on January 22, following a meticulous operation to track and arrest the wanted individual.
Macias had been identified as an accomplice of Mohamed Husien, recently deceased, who led authorities on a high-speed chase spanning 45 miles after carjacking a vehicle from a local car dealership, during these crimes Husien engaged in multiple confrontations with law enforcement, including shootouts with both Hollister police and California Highway Patrol officers that resulted in his death. Macias’s involvement was uncovered when detectives from the San Jose Police Department connected him to the initial carjacking after he was spotted dropping Husien at the scene, as detailed in the Marshal's press release.
The task force, with a history of arresting over 105,900 fugitives since its inception, initiated its operation after being requested to find Macias in the evening of January 21. Intel led them to Los Banos, where Macias was believed to be hiding at a residence. Authorities established surveillance, awaiting a search warrant which granted the eventual entry into the home.
With search warrant in hand, PSWRFTF acted at approximately 4 a.m. on the following day, deploying a tactical surround and callout maneuver, using lights and sirens to order Macias and any residence occupants to exit, "Macias was taken into custody without incident," confirms the U.S. Marshals' announcement. The house was subsequently searched for potential additional suspects and the scene was then turned over to San Jose PD for further investigation.
Focusing its efforts on tracking and capturing individuals sought for violent crimes, the PSWRFTF covers a broad jurisdiction across California and Nevada. It operates out of its primary office situated in Los Angeles.
