Drivers maneuvering through Gatlinburg next week should plan for minor delays as Stansell Electric upgrades traffic control boxes at several intersections. The work is scheduled to start on Monday, January 12, and aims to conclude by Wednesday, January 14, weather permitting, as per the information provided by the City of Gatlinburg.
The upgrades are part of an effort to enhance traffic signals throughout the city, following the recent installation of new lights. Traffic is expected to be briefly interrupted at each of the six intersections, with disruptions estimated to last about an hour per location. Stansell Electric will conduct these operations between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
The intersections impacted include East Parkway's crossings at Glades Road, Ridge Road, and Roaring Fork Road; River Road's junctions with Maples Lane and Ski Mountain Road; and Parkway at Traffic Light No. 10. While the traffic control boxes are being switched out, the usual flow of red, yellow, and green will be temporarily paused, as per City of Gatlinburg's announcement.
To help prevent to absurdly complicated traffic flow, Gatlinburg Police Department officers will step in where the traffic lights step out, directing the stream of vehicles. Motorists are urged to respect the safety of both the officers on the road and the crews working hard at these intersections. The city asks drivers to exercise caution during these times.
