Vacaville Man Sentenced to 17.5 Years for Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Faces Additional Federal Charges

A Vacaville man, Michael Rubino, aged 38, was recently handed down a 17.5-year prison sentence for sexual exploitation of a minor, Chief U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley ordered. Details from the U.S. Attorney's Office show the victim, a 17-year-old girl, was coaxed into staying at Rubino’s parents' home where he committed and filmed the criminal acts.

Records from the court provided to Hoodline indicate that during late 2024, Rubino made approximately 15 videos that captured him assaulting the minor. In addition to sexual exploitation, there was a recording of Rubino ingesting methamphetamine and directing its smoke into the girl's genitalia. Convicted of previous violations, including domestic violence, Rubino also has restraining orders against him filed by different women in Solano County.

After being abandoned at a local hospital by Rubino, the minor underwent surgery due to infections at drug injection sites. Subsequent investigation efforts by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Vacaville Police Department led to Rubino’s arrest and the seizure of incriminating evidence from his parents’ residence. On project dedicated to tackling similar offenses, Project Safe Childhood, this case was brought to notice, which since its 2006 inception, has been essential in fighting child sexual abuse nationwide.

Moreover, Rubino is facing a federal indictment on charges of producing child sexual abuse material, as reported by Hoodline. Arrested after making these materials, involving sexual acts with the minor which were filmed using his iPhone, Rubino could be sentenced to an additional 15 to 30 years if convicted. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sam Stefanki is spearheading the prosecution of this disturbing case under Project Safe Childhood, echoing the severe repercussions of child exploitation.
