This morning, a Vacaville neighborhood watched law enforcement chase down three suspects allegedly tied to a catalytic converter theft, ending in a sequence of arrests and a seizure of narcotics. According to the Vacaville Police Department's Facebook page, it all began when a member of the community, hearing the sounds of an electric saw by Keating Park, called in suspicious activity involving a U-Haul and a Honda vehicle.

The police arrived to find a Honda with a freshly damaged catalytic converter, and a Sawzall blade was left at the scene, tipping off the officers to the suspects' hurried departure and initiating a search through nearby neighborhoods for the U-Haul, and when they spotted the truck and attempted a traffic stop, two suspects sprang out and ran while the driver remained, this sequence of events led to the arrest of one Jose Garcia after a brief foot pursuit, while another suspect managed to momentarily elude capture.

A coordinated search featuring a patrol drone and K9 Rooster located the second suspect, Gilberto Castillo, hiding inside a boat, seemingly concealed by items within. Castillo, identified as a transient, carried a no-bail felony warrant for vandalism and a probation violation out of Marin County. Drones overhead and K9 units on the ground combined to corner the fugitive, demonstrating the effective use of technology and teamwork in modern policing.

Meanwhile, at the U-Haul, officers detained 36-year-old Evan Jarquinreyes of Vacaville, discovering within the vehicle several Sawzall tools, quantities of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia, further checks on the apprehended suspects, Garcia and Castillo, brought to light Garcia's probation status from Alameda County for possession of stolen property and Castillo's aformentioned active warrants, leading to varying charges for the trio including attempted grand theft, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy, possession of narcotics, and narcotic paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.

In their social media post, the Vacaville Police Department credited the vigilant community member who reported the suspicious activity, emphasizing the essential role residents play in helping maintain the safety of their community. With this incident, the night shift teams of Vacaville illustrated their continued efforts to curtail local crime, reflected in their statement, "Even while you’re sleeping, our night shift teams are working together, using their training, technology, and a little cardio to catch thieves and help improve the quality of life for all in Vacaville."
