Amid ongoing concerns over sex trafficking and related criminal activities in the city's landscape, the Vallejo Police Department's Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Team has been targeting zones in West Vallejo noted for these troubling issues. In a recent patrol, the team's observations led to an arrest for solicitation of prostitution on Tuesday. The confiscation of the involved vehicle followed the arrest to deter further illicit activities, as detailed in a social media post by the Vallejo Police Department.
In the brisk and biting cold near Marin Street and Alabama Street, officers spotted a woman exhibiting signs typical of street-level sexual exploitation. She was observed signaling to motorists and conversing with the occupant of a white Nissan Maxima, which raised the suspicions of the patrolling officers. The white Nissan Maxima later attracted further attention from law enforcement due to the driver's behavior, which included the discarding of a cigarette ash onto the roadway, a fire risk, in addition to being a violation of a state law. The vehicle was subsequently pulled over, and the driver was questioned.
During the interaction with the driver, the officers reported that the man gave conflicting accounts of his movements and intended destination. This, combined with their prior observations, led to the conclusion that the driver was in the process of soliciting prostitution. The man was arrested and sent to Solano County Jail, as the Vallejo Police Department conveyed in their post.
The female whom the POP Team initially spotted declined services offered and left the vicinity following the incident. The Vallejo Police Department's intention behind these patrols is clear: to provide support to potential victims, to interrupt the cycle of exploitation, and to ensure that those who perpetrate such activities are held accountable.
