Las Vegas police conducted a New Year’s Eve traffic operation across the Las Vegas Valley, resulting in 54 arrests and over 800 citations as officers stopped hundreds of drivers to prevent impaired driving.

Dozens of arrests, hundreds of tickets in holiday crackdown

During the New Year’s Eve enforcement effort, officers conducted 835 traffic stops and issued 805 citations, according to FOX5 Las Vegas. Metro reported a total of 54 arrests, including six unrelated to DUI charges, and said one firearm was recovered during the operation.

Who was on the streets

The operation included both sworn officers and support personnel. Metro reported that LVMPD Traffic officers, the LIFE team, civilian staff, and phlebotomists participated, along with corrections officers from the Clark County Detention Center, Clark County School District police, and Nevada State Police troopers. The department also reminded the public on social media that there are many safe alternatives to driving while impaired, as reported by FOX5 Las Vegas.

Part of a longer traffic safety push

The New Year’s Eve results are part of an ongoing, months-long traffic enforcement effort. From September through mid-December, Metro’s Traffic LIFE Squad conducted more than 13,000 stops and issued over 14,000 citations as part of its continuing safety initiative. Statewide, the Nevada Highway Patrol’s New Year’s enforcement campaign led to 49 DUI arrests and approximately 1,358 traffic stops, KTNV reported.

What happens after the stop

Arrests mentioned in summary posts indicate initial detentions. Those in custody in Clark County are generally processed there, and the Clark County District Attorney’s Office makes the final decisions on formal charges.

Information on bookings and inmate searches can be accessed through the Clark County Detention Center’s online portal.

Message from Metro to valley drivers

Metro used its holiday enforcement recap to remind drivers to arrange sober rides on busy nights and to avoid driving after drinking. Officials said the purpose of these operations is to reduce crashes and improve safety on Las Vegas-area roads, even if it results in citations or arrests for those caught driving impaired.
