A motorcyclist has died two days after crashing into an SUV at a Henderson intersection with a documented history of severe traffic collisions. The rider was ejected from his motorcycle after it struck the passenger side of a Ford Explorer at Green Valley and Wigwam Parkways just after 4 p.m. on August 29, according to police, and he died from his injuries on August 31.
Henderson police say speed was a suspected contributing factor in the crash, and investigators believe the motorcycle was heading south on Green Valley Parkway at a high rate of speed when it struck the SUV, which was turning left onto Wigwam, according to KSNV. Medical personnel transported the rider to Sunrise Hospital, where he later died. Police say the SUV driver did not suffer serious injuries.
Under Nevada Revised Statutes Section 484B.253, drivers attempting to turn left across oncoming traffic are legally required to yield the right-of-way to any approaching vehicle that presents an immediate hazard, according to the Nevada state legal code. That statute places the primary burden on left-turning drivers in broadside crashes like this one, even as police note the motorcycle's suspected high speed as a factor under investigation.
A Corridor With a Documented History of Fatal Crashes
This is not the first deadly collision at or near this stretch of roadway. A pedestrian was struck and killed at North Green Valley Parkway and Wigwam Parkway in December 2023, a crash Henderson police logged as the city's 11th traffic death that year, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal's earlier reporting. In December 2018, a 75-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed at Wigwam Parkway near Green Valley Parkway as well, an incident the Las Vegas Sun reported was Henderson's 12th traffic fatality of that year.
A 2022 University of Nevada, Las Vegas transit safety study went further, classifying segments of Green Valley Parkway immediately surrounding Wigwam Parkway as high-risk crash corridors in Southern Nevada, according to research published by UNLV. The study evaluated crash density and frequency along key transit corridors throughout the Las Vegas Valley. Just nine days earlier, Hoodline reported on another injury crash nearby, a multi-vehicle wreck at Eastern Avenue and Wigwam Parkway that also underscored the corridor's crash history.
Motorcycle Deaths Stay High Even as Nevada's Traffic Toll Drops
The Henderson crash lands amid a broader statewide pattern: traffic deaths overall are falling in Nevada, but motorcycle fatalities are not budging. Statewide traffic deaths reached 199 through July, a 13.5 percent decrease from the 230 fatalities recorded over the same period in 2025, according to the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety. Yet earlier this year, overall traffic fatalities in Southern Nevada fell 26 percent in the first quarter while motorcyclist deaths held flat at 16 through March, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
That plateau follows a sharp rise the year before. Nevada recorded 82 motorcycle fatalities in 2024, a 28 percent surge from 2023, with Clark County accounting for 67 of those deaths, or more than 80 percent of the state total, per data compiled by the Brian Boyer Injury Lawyer firm. Nevada's helmet law, codified under NRS 486.231, requires all motorcycle operators and passengers on public highways to wear U.S. Department of Transportation-approved headgear securely fastened to their heads, one of just 18 states with a universal mandate, according to the Drummond Law Firm.
Henderson Police Had Already Targeted This Stretch for Speed Enforcement
Henderson Police launched targeted speed enforcement patrols along major arterial roads, including Green Valley Parkway, in January after identifying them as among the city's most dangerous corridors for excessive speed, FOX5 Las Vegas reported at the time. The city is also in the midst of major infrastructure work along the corridor, including rebuilding the nearby I-215 interchange into a diverging diamond design meant to improve traffic flow, according to a project overview from GES West.
This latest death adds to a string of fatal motorcycle crashes Hoodline has covered across Henderson in recent months, including a fatal Red Rock curve crash involving a 28-year-old rider in June, a fatal Northshore Road crash in March, and a rush-hour collision at Russell and Stephanie in February. Henderson police have not released the identity of the rider killed in the August 29 crash, and the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
