The Wake Forest Police Department reported that Officers Corrigan and March have completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training. According to a Facebook post, the program is designed to help law enforcement safely and effectively respond to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.

As part of a collaboration with Wake County Human Services and the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the officers completed 40 hours of specialized CIT training. The program provides law enforcement with tools and knowledge to handle interactions with individuals experiencing mental health crises more safely and effectively.

The Wake Forest Police Department states that the training helps officers recognize signs of mental distress and teaches deescalation techniques, aiming to reduce injuries and limit unnecessary arrests of individuals with mental illnesses.
