
The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a Winter Storm Watch for East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, warning of significant snow, sleet, and ice. Areas north of the Tennessee/Mississippi state line could see more than 3 inches of snow and sleet with up to a quarter-inch of ice, while southern areas may experience heavier ice accumulations exceeding a quarter-inch, according to the National Weather Service.
Officials caution that the storm could cause power outages, tree damage, and dangerous travel conditions, potentially making roads impassable. The watch affects cities including Memphis, Jonesboro, and Tupelo, with the Friday evening commute expected to be particularly hazardous, as reported by the National Weather Service.
Showers are expected today before 1 p.m. with a high near 48°F, followed by mostly cloudy skies tonight and a low around 33°F. On Friday, there is a slight chance of sleet before noon, then snow and sleet with a high near 36°F and gusts up to 30 mph. On Saturday, there is a 90% chance of snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain and sleet, with a high near 18°F and lows around 14°F Saturday night. On Sunday, there may be a 30% chance of snow before noon, as stated by the National Weather Service.
