Herbert Maneloveg, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient, celebrated his 101st birthday in a grand fashion at Disney World's Magic Kingdom Park on Sunday. The centenarian was honored during the park’s daily Flag Retreat Ceremony, a tradition deeply rooted in Disney's legacy of military appreciation. WFTV reported that Maneloveg's service in the U.S. Army's 106th Infantry Division, particularly during the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded, was recognized in the ceremony that selects a visitor each day to represent the U.S. Armed Forces.
The day's festivities for Maneloveg also included what he described as a "wish that’s better than any wish I've ever had." He was able to enjoy a journey down Main Street U.S.A. and a visit to Cinderella Castle, flanked by his family. Later, they attended a special viewing of the Festival of Fantasy Parade, where Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse greeted them. This experience, according to Maneloveg, underscored the importance of family, an ideal obviously dear to his heart. ClickOrlando noted his front-row view of the parade and trip down Main Street.
Susan Maneloveg, Herbert's daughter, conveyed her father's legacy of balancing military service with his roles as a father, husband, and grandfather. In a statement obtained by WFTV, she expressed gratitude towards Disney for how they honored her father: “Thanks to Disney and how they honored him. The parade was great, he got attention from everybody, which was so sweet.” This personal tribute echoes Disney's own history, as both its founders, Walt and Roy O. Disney, served their country during World War I, establishing a tradition of honoring service members that persists to this day.
