Barrow County steps into the future with the establishment of its own Water Resources Department and has tapped Bill King as the inaugural director. The announcement, reported by the county's official website, follows a comprehensive reorganization designed to streamline operations and accommodate the growth the county has been experiencing.

Previously operating within the Public Works division, the new department is part Ben Franklin's proverbial ounce of prevention, aiming to position Barrow County ahead of its burgeoning needs. According to Srikanth Yamala, the County Manager, in a statement released by Barrow County's official news release, "Bill brings more than three decades' worth of experience to Barrow County, with expertise in water and sewer collection and distribution systems and experience serving in local government." He continued, "We are excited about the opportunity this change provides to strengthen leadership focus, improve coordination, and continue expanding and improving Barrow County's water and wastewater systems in support of our growing community."

The county's decision reflects its recognition of the critical role water management plays in maintaining the quality of life for its residents. As a veteran in the field, King has already been serving as Assistant Public Works Director for Hall County and brings a wealth of experience from past roles, including City Engineer and Assistant Public Works Director for the City of Cartersville, and Director of Public Works for the City of Commerce.

King, who is set to begin his role on February 23, is not just bringing his extensive experience but also his academic credentials as a Georgia Institute of Technology civil engineering graduate, holding a license as a Professional Engineer and a Georgia Water Distribution System Operator. "It's an honor to join the team at Barrow County, which has always served as a responsible steward of its water resources in the region," King told Barrow County's news site.
