Bostonians bracing for the winter chill have little to look forward to this week, according to the latest forecast. With the city only expected to peak at a frigid high of 25 degrees today, residents are being warned of wind chill values plummeting as low as -3. The National Weather Service reports that the north wind will be blowing at 11 to 14 mph, with gusts that could reach 32 mph, making for an exceptionally cold day.
Tonight's outlook doesn't offer much respite, with cloudy skies eventually parting to reveal a low dipping around 11 degrees. Gusts of wind, as high as 25 mph, punctuate the evening as they blow northwest at a less intense 8 to 10 mph. Wind chill values, struggling just to cling to zero, promise a night where winter's grip holds tight onto the city. Tomorrow is forecasted to be mostly sunny with a high nearing 30 degrees and a calmer northwest wind at 6 to 8 mph, giving residents a slight reprieve from the weekend's brute cold.
As the week progresses, the temperatures show a gentle incline with Tuesday and Wednesday both promising sunny skies and highs resting near 31 degrees, slightly nudging above freezing. Nighttime temperatures, however, continue their brisk descent, with Tuesday and Wednesday evenings hovering around the low teens, according to the National Weather Service. Light winds of variable directions are expected to accompany the daytime sunshine.
Looking towards the end of the week, the forecast predicts Thursday to remain mostly sunny, boasting an encroaching high of 29 degrees. The northwest wind plans to blow gently around 6 mph. But come nighttime, the mercury falls again, testing Boston with a low around 9. The city's battle with the cold eases slightly on Friday with temperatures reaching nearly 29 degrees under partly sunny skies as the southwest wind picks up between 6 to 8 mph. This brief moment of calm before the weekend is interrupted when Friday night introduces a chance of snow, plunging the low to around 16 degrees with a persistent southwest wind.
The anticipation of snow carries over into Saturday, where skittish sun peeks through the clouds, flanked by the possibility of snow showers, as the chance of precipitation lingers at 40%. The high will falter to near 23 degrees while the northwest wind rampages again, 9 to 14 mph with gusts that could top 25 mph, wrapping the week in a cold, unforgiving bow.
