
The man killed in a violent single-vehicle crash in Columbus' Brewery District last week has been identified as 29-year-old Robert Carson, according to the Franklin County coroner. Carson, who lived on the city's East Side, was thrown from an SUV during the wreck Thursday evening and was later pronounced dead at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.
Columbus police say a 2003 Ford Explorer was heading south on South High Street when it went off the right side of the road at Greenlawn Avenue, hit a utility pole and a tree, then continued onto Thurman Avenue before coming to a stop, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Officers and medics responded just before 8:10 p.m. The driver was found ejected from the SUV, taken to the hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Detectives from the division's Accident Investigation Unit processed the scene while parts of High Street and Greenlawn were shut down.
Crash Scene And Probe
Police closed South High Street between Mithoff Street and Deshler Avenue, along with a stretch of Greenlawn Avenue, as investigators documented the wreckage and collected evidence, as reported by AOL. Officials have not released any information about possible contributing factors, including speed, impairment or mechanical issues, and the investigation remains open. The Columbus Division of Police has not announced any charges.
Victim Identified
The Franklin County Coroner's Office formally identified the driver as Robert Carson, 29, of the East Side, per The Columbus Dispatch. Authorities had held back his name while they confirmed his identity and notified family members. Columbus police say they will share additional findings when they are available.
