A Brooklyn woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from an incident in which she attacked her roommate and the roommate's daughter. According to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, 34-year-old Iescha Gowdy of East New York was sentenced at Brooklyn Supreme Court by Justice Rhonda Tomlinson on January 6 for attempted murder and criminal use of a firearm.

District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the sentencing, stating that Gowdy was involved in a violent incident on January 1, 2024. During the altercation at the shared residence, she discharged a firearm and assaulted the 57-year-old victim.

Trial evidence indicated that Gowdy brandished a firearm and threatened the apartment’s occupants, firing the weapon without hitting anyone. When the victim’s daughter attempted to flee, Gowdy pursued her and struck her on the forehead with the firearm. During the struggle, the victims were able to disarm her, but she returned shortly afterward with a knife, stabbing the older woman in the neck and injuring the family dog.

Gowdy was arrested the day after the incident, beginning a legal process that concluded with her guilty plea. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Amelia Digirolamo of the District Attorney’s Red Zone Trial Bureau, under the supervision of Bureau Chief Karla Watson. Following the incident, the victims, including the family dog, received medical treatment for their injuries.

Gowdy was sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
