Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell is once again an NBA All-Star, after being announced as a reserve for the star-studded event. This is Mitchell's fourth time representing the Cavs and his seventh consecutive selection overall, an accolade that he's made appear almost routine. The guard's exceptional form has earned him a spot on the reserve bench for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, set to take place in Los Angeles on February 15, according to Cleveland19 news.
In the midst of another career-best season, Mitchell has continued to consistently deliver on the court, averaging 29.1 points, 5.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and an impressive 1.46 steals per game. He has not only scored 30-plus points in 25 games, but also racked up 40 or more points on five occasions, leading the Eastern Conference with a total of 173 made three-pointers. This shooting clinic from beyond the arc has left many peers and fans expecting nothing less than excellence when Mitchell steps onto the court.
With this selection, Mitchell stands with Cleveland's elite players, joining the likes of LeBron James, Brad Daugherty, Mark Price, and Kyrie Irving as the only Cavaliers to earn four or more All-Star nods. According to an Akron Beacon Journal report, Mitchell's true shooting percentage this season is an exceptional 61.8%, combining all types of shots into one metric demonstrating his efficiency on the floor.
The All-Star Game's refreshed round-robin format, featuring U.S.-born players against an international roster in a series of four games, will also see Mitchell's former coach, J.B. Bickerstaff, now with the Detroit Pistons, return to coach one of the teams. While the full rosters for the event are still awaiting announcement, Cleveland fans will surely be excited to back their star guard in the contest. The Cavaliers have largely depended on Mitchell to keep them afloat this season, marked by injuries across their starting lineup – a fact that has been keenly felt by the player himself, who told Akron Beacon Journal, "I want to be a starter for sure, but understand that, hey, at the end of the day, we win games, everybody gets rewarded."
Meanwhile, other players like LeBron James have continued making history, with James announced as a 2026 All-Star reserve as well, marking his 22nd consecutive selection. The All-Star festivities will gather the best of basketball talent under one roof, with the Intuit Dome playing host to a spectacle that promises to showcase skill, agility, and competitive sportsmanship at its finest. Fans can catch the action live on NBC or streaming on Peacock come February 15 at 5 p.m.
