What started as a routine larceny-from-auto call in northwest Charlotte ended with four young suspects in handcuffs and felony charges tied to a nearby shooting, according to investigators.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say three teenagers and one juvenile were arrested after detectives connected a reported vehicle break-in to a shooting at an occupied home less than an hour earlier. The cases led officers to multiple suspect vehicles and ultimately to charges that include firing into an occupied dwelling and related property damage.

Officers arrested 19-year-old Jalen Brown, 18-year-old Jaidon Warner and 18-year-old Elijah Daniels, along with an unnamed juvenile, and charged them with discharging a weapon into occupied property, felony conspiracy and counts for injury to real and personal property, according to WCNC. Booking records cited by the outlet show Warner also faces a felony larceny of a motor vehicle charge and a count of resisting, delaying and obstructing, while the juvenile is charged with unlawful possession of a handgun by a minor. Police did not immediately release information on any victims or injuries.

The arrests land in the middle of an ongoing public safety push by CMPD. A recent report from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department shows overall and violent crime trending down for 2025, but department leaders have repeatedly flagged shootings into occupied homes as a priority problem. As WBTV has reported, CMPD has rolled out targeted efforts such as the S.W.I.T.C.H. initiative that lean on community tips and focused investigative work to clamp down on those kinds of cases.

How Police Say They Pieced It Together

Detectives tied a northwest Charlotte larceny-from-auto call to a shooting that had gone out less than an hour before, then used an abandoned vehicle to bridge the gap between the two scenes, according to WCNC. Officers in the North Tryon division initially responded to the larceny report. From there, Metro and Eastway division detectives recovered a second suspect vehicle and detained individuals believed to be connected to the investigation.

CMPD credited cross-division teamwork, including assistance from its Domestic Violence Unit, with helping move quickly from car break-in call to shooting suspects under arrest.

What The Charges Mean For Younger Suspects

All four suspects have been booked on the listed counts and remain in custody as detectives continue to work the case. Their ages also put the spotlight on how North Carolina now handles serious charges against teens.

HB 834, a state law that took effect on Dec. 1, 2024, reshaped the rules for 16- and 17-year-olds accused of certain serious felonies and can shift some of those cases into adult court. WBTV has detailed how that change factors into prosecutors’ options and how CMPD is adjusting its approach.

The investigation is still active, and CMPD has not released further information on the shooting or the break-in. Anyone with details is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or submit a tip anonymously online.
