The NYPD has arrested 30-year-old daycare teacher Devante Brown on multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of minors. Brown faces charges including second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, first- and second-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, and endangering the welfare of a child. The Brooklyn Child Abuse Squad is investigating whether additional children were affected. Authorities report that the alleged incidents involved four girls, ages 5 to 9, at a Bushwick childcare center between April 2024 and August 2025, according to ABC7NY.
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez described the alleged actions of Devante Brown as a serious breach of trust and stated that abuses of authority involving children are unacceptable. Reports from the Brooklyn Eagle indicate that Brown allegedly used threats to prevent victims from reporting the incidents, including warning that their favorite teacher could be fired if they told an adult.
Authorities reported that the abuse came to light after the children disclosed the incidents to their parents, who then contacted law enforcement. Officials have advised parents to remain vigilant and attentive to potential signs of abuse, as per the Brooklyn Eagle.
The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene issued a statement condemning the alleged actions and reaffirming its commitment to child safety, emphasizing that regulatory agencies for childcare centers will not tolerate misconduct.
Devante Brown is currently being held on $150,000 cash bail, $300,000 insurance bond, or $500,000 partially secured bond. The NYPD is asking any additional potential victims to come forward and has provided multiple reporting options, including the Sex Crimes Hotline at 1-212-267-RAPE (7273) and the Crime Stoppers Hotlines at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) for English or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish, with more details available on the Crime Stoppers website.
