A late-night fight in a downtown Portland parking lot turned into a shooting early Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, leaving one man wounded and sending crowds running through nearby streets, police said.
The clash broke out in a lot off Harvey Milk Street between 3rd and 4th avenues just before bar-closing time and quickly escalated. According to Portland police, the shooting was reported at about 2:40 a.m., multiple rounds were fired, and several vehicles in the lot were hit.
Officers found a man with a gunshot wound at the scene. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, and no deaths were reported. The early-morning chaos and injury were first detailed by KATU.
Parking-lot showdowns have turned violent before
It is not the first time a late-night gathering in the downtown and Old Town area has ended with gunfire.
In August 2025, police said about 100 people crowded into an Old Town parking lot when a confrontation broke out and shots were fired. Two people were wounded and officers then had to manage a tense, crowded scene at a hospital as people rushed there in the aftermath, according to KPTV.
Police hunt for shooter and witnesses
By noon Saturday, Portland police said they had made no arrests in the Harvey Milk Street case. Detectives are reviewing video and witness statements to piece together who pulled the trigger and how the brawl spiraled into a shooting.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to email [email protected], attn: ECST, and reference case number 26-51708. The call for tips and ongoing investigation were reported by KATU.
If you were there
Police are urging anyone who was in or near the parking lot at the time of the fight and shooting to come forward, especially if they have cell phone video, photos, or security footage from nearby buildings or vehicles.
Investigators say images, audio, and precise timestamps can be crucial for identifying everyone involved and building a clear timeline of how the confrontation unfolded. For general contact information and public news releases from the bureau, visit the Portland Police Bureau.
