What started as a routine medical call in East Oak Cliff turned into a homicide investigation yesterday, after Dallas firefighters found a man dead in the 2900 block of Cummings Street.
Crews were dispatched for a report of an unconscious person and discovered the victim when they arrived. Police said the man appeared to have been stabbed, and the Dallas County medical examiner has so far listed the death as unexplained while the office continues its investigation.
According to The Dallas Morning News, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said crews were sent to the scene around 2:11 p.m. and determined the man was already dead before calling police. The outlet reported that no further information was immediately available about the victim's identity or any suspects.
What Investigators Have Said
As reported by FOX 4, responding officers said the victim had at least one stab wound, and homicide detectives remained at the scene to collect evidence. FOX 4 also noted that investigators have not released any suspect description and that the Dallas County Medical Examiner will handle official identification of the victim and determine the precise cause of death.
Neighborhood Context
The discovery adds to a rough stretch for East Oak Cliff. Just days earlier, a pre-dawn East Oak Cliff blaze on Feb. 3 left a man dead inside a home, a separate incident that has also kept investigators and emergency crews busy in the area, per Hoodline.
