An 84-year-old Rockville man was killed Monday afternoon when two vehicles collided at the rural intersection of Highway 15 and County Road 146 in Maine Prairie Township, Stearns County. The crash happened around 3:11 p.m., and one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol's preliminary accident report, as reported by KNSI, Manford James Iverslie was driving a 2022 Ford F-150 west on County Road 146 when his pickup struck a northbound 2019 Ford Expedition. Iverslie, 84, died at the scene. Airbags went off in both vehicles. A 42-year-old woman from Saint Augusta was taken to CentraCare-St. Cloud Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, and a 7-year-old girl from Saint Augusta in the Expedition was not hurt.
Intersection's crash history
This was not the first serious crash at that junction, which has developed an unsettling track record. The Minnesota State Patrol's public incident logs show a fatal crash at the same intersection in February 2021 and a separate multi-vehicle injury crash there in September 2025, a pattern that has made this rural crossing a recurring concern. The 2021 fatal collision was recorded by the Minnesota State Patrol, and the 2025 injury crash details were posted by the Minnesota State Patrol.
Safety details
Troopers reported that airbags deployed in both vehicles, all occupants were properly restrained with seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor, according to the preliminary report via KNSI. Responders included the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Watkins Fire, South Haven Fire, Kimball Fire and Mayo EMS.
Investigation
The State Patrol is still working to piece together exactly what led to the collision, and officials have not yet released additional details. Neighbors and local officials continue to urge drivers to take extra care on rural highways, where high speeds, open fields and winter or mixed weather conditions can turn seemingly ordinary intersections into highly risky spots.
