A significant water main break has disrupted approximately 120 services in Baltimore, prompting emergency repairs. The 20-inch main at Patterson and Wabash Avenue gave way, leading officials to shut off water in the area to manage the situation. As reported by WMAR2 News, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) crews have been deployed to the site for urgent repairs.
Among the impacted services, residences, and businesses, including Metro Pointe Apartments, Patterson Village Shopping Complex, Home Depot, and Reisterstown Road Plaza, find themselves without water amidst the repair works. Through the cold that has recently swept through the city, the DPW notes a spike in similar incidents. "Due to extremely cold temperatures," the DPW admits to experiencing a "higher-than-normal number of water main breaks," the department detailed in a statement obtained by WMAR2 News. Efforts to distribute water to those affected are underway while the site works on the restoration of normalcy.
As crews work tirelessly, they operate under the weight of expectation and urgency. "Working around the clock to make repairs as safely and quickly as possible," officials stated, as captured in Fox Baltimore's coverage of the event. Authorities are urging residents to report any suspected water main breaks directly to Baltimore City by calling 311 or, for those in the Baltimore County service area, by contacting 443-263-2220.
