
A fatal collision on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Palmer last night left one person dead and caused significant traffic disruptions. Massachusetts State Police, alongside the Palmer Fire Department, responded to the incident on Interstate 90 west at mile marker 60.7 at approximately 8:23 p.m. following reports of a two-vehicle crash. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
Following the crash, MassDOT closed the westbound lanes at Exit 63, as reported by NBC Boston. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and were provided with detour instructions, traffic eventually resumed albeit through the breakdown lane that reopened around 8:46 p.m. According to WWLP, officials expected lane closures to continue for several hours following the accident.
Inquiries into the incident are now underway with involvement from the district attorney's office, state police crime scene services, and collision analysis and reconstruction sections. As of the moment, details regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash have not been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether any charges related to the incident will be pursued.
