In an expansion of an ongoing health alert, the Food and Drug Administration has updated the classification of a peanut butter recall that now encompasses 40 states, with a substantial number of affected products having been distributed across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. According to 6abc, the recall involves over 22,000 single-serve items, produced by Ventura Foods, that were largely sold under private-label brands to distributors.
The FDA started a recall last April after finding pieces of blue plastic in a filter at a production facility. Last Thursday, the agency classified it as a Class 2 recall, meaning the products could cause temporary illness but are not expected to be serious. The affected items include peanut butter packets and cups, some with grape or strawberry jelly, ranging from 0.5-ounce packets to 1.12-ounce cups, sold under DYMA Brands and distributed by US Foods, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
Certain peanut butter products from Ventura Foods, not sold directly to consumers, may have been distributed through foodservice channels. The recall includes states such as California, Florida, and New York, as per 9News. The FDA advises checking, disposing of, or returning any recalled items. A full list of affected products is available on the FDA website.
