After being closed for more than a year, Mike’s Pizza has reopened in Flatbush. The Bedford Avenue slice shop shut down in January 2025 after its landlord sold the property. It resumed operations last week at 5 Martense Street, just off Flatbush Avenue. Customers lined up for slices from the same team that previously operated the shop. The reopening comes amid ongoing redevelopment in the area that has led to the departure of several longtime small businesses.
Owner Mike told News 12 Brooklyn that he had not planned to reopen after losing the Bedford Avenue storefront, but said community support influenced his decision. He said he values the neighborhood and wants to give back. Longtime customer Denis Thomas also told the outlet that he was glad to see the business return to Flatbush.
Forced From Bedford
The original Mike’s Pizza held down its Bedford Avenue spot for 23 years before the landlord sold the property and issued vacate orders in January 2025, a move that left neighbors and other small businesses scrambling. That history, and the wave of mass vacate notices at the building, was detailed by the Brooklyn Paper.
New Home On Martense
The new storefront at 5 Martense Street previously housed Nurmoy Pizza & Restaurant, which lists that address on its site, and local inspection logs show Nurmoy closed in December 2025. A commercial listing from Houlihan Lawrence markets 5 Martense as a turnkey pizzeria, a setup that likely made it easier and faster for Mike’s team to move in and fire up the ovens again.
Neighborhood Reaction And The Bigger Picture
Mike’s return comes against a backdrop of redevelopment-driven closures that local outlets reported across Flatbush last year, a trend many small-business owners say has made it harder to hang on. Fox 5 New York documented several storefronts being cleared for new development and the ripple effects up and down the block. In that context, neighbors said seeing Mike’s reopen felt like proof that some neighborhood institutions can still find a way back.
To relaunch the Flatbush location, Mike teamed up with business partner Manny, and both said they hope to repay the neighborhood for years of patronage, according to News 12 Brooklyn. For now, the ovens are humming again at 5 Martense Street, and the line out the door suggests Flatbush has not forgotten one of its favorite slice shops.
