A Grady County mother and a 21-year-old woman are being held in the county jail on hefty bonds after investigators alleged the younger woman had a sexual relationship with a juvenile living in the home. Misty Renee Henington, 43, and Makayla Alexii Jenkins, 21, are both locked up in Chickasha on $500,000 bonds apiece.
Booking records lay out charges and bond amounts
The Grady County detention roster shows Henington was booked Thursday on five counts described as enabling child sexual abuse, while Jenkins was booked Wednesday on multiple counts, including rape by instrumentation and several counts of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16. The online entries list the cases as CF-26-43 for Henington and CF-26-44 for Jenkins, according to the Grady County Detention Center and a separate listing for Jenkins on the same system, which also reflect bond set at $500,000 for each defendant.
Investigators say the relationship started online
Investigators told News 9 that Jenkins and the juvenile first connected online roughly three years ago. According to that reporting, Jenkins later moved into Henington’s home and shared a bedroom with the child.
News 9 also reports that Henington acknowledged to deputies that her child and Jenkins were sexually active. As part of the investigation, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services was contacted, according to the station.
What Oklahoma law says about the charges
Under Oklahoma law, lewd or indecent acts with a child under 16 are felony offenses that can carry prison terms of three to twenty years in many cases. Statutes addressing rape by instrumentation allow for steeper penalties depending on the degree, including potential life sentences for first-degree offenses, according to the Oklahoma criminal code and statutory overviews compiled by legal resources. Convictions for these types of crimes commonly trigger sex-offender registration and other post-sentence requirements.
What happens next in court
Local reporting indicates attorneys for both defendants were expected to be announced on February 26, with preliminary hearing conferences scheduled for March 4, according to a local roundup of court activity. Until then, Henington and Jenkins remain in custody at the Grady County Detention Center while the cases move through the system.
