A late-night blaze tore through an apartment building on Grant Avenue in Millvale on Tuesday, sending thick black smoke over the borough and pulling in a heavy emergency response. Neighbors described visible flames and a steady stream of fire trucks and other apparatus, as several blocks were cordoned off while crews worked. As of late Tuesday night, dispatchers had not reported any injuries, and firefighters remained on scene to knock down the fire and search the structure.
Firefighters Swarm Grant Avenue
Allegheny County dispatchers said crews were called to the 100 block of Grant Avenue at about 10:31 p.m., and smoke could be seen pouring from the apartment building, as reported by WPXI. Channel 11 reported it had a crew at the scene and was working to learn more about the extent of the damage and whether anyone was displaced.
Eyewitness Accounts and Scanner Chatter
Local social posts and scanner traffic indicated the blaze involved the corner building at Grant and Stanton, with some users identifying the property as 101 Grant Avenue and describing a multi-company response, according to posts on Reddit. Those firsthand accounts included reports of crews rescuing residents and a roof fire that burned into the late hours, though those details have not yet been confirmed by officials.
Context and What Comes Next
Residential fires are not new to Millvale. In March 2025, another apartment blaze in the borough left one person injured, as previously reported in coverage of the March 2025 apartment blaze. Officials have not yet released a cause for Tuesday night’s fire. Investigators and fire officials are expected to provide updates to local outlets as the scene is cleared, and WPXI is continuing coverage from the scene.
