On a quiet stretch of Grove Park, a woman neighbors knew as the block’s unofficial lookout was killed inside her own home. Tracey Taylor, 57, was found stabbed to death in her West Atlanta house on Jan. 17, and her family says whoever did it is still walking free.
Taylor, a mother of seven and grandmother of 11, was known as a steady presence on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. Now her relatives say they have seen little movement in the investigation and worry the case could slip into the background unless new leads surface. Her children are pushing publicly for answers, urging both detectives and neighbors to come forward with anything that could point to a suspect.
Scene and timeline
Atlanta police say officers were called to a house on the 1800 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW after a man inside the home went to check on Taylor and found her unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators briefly detained a person of interest nearby but did not file any charges, and police have not released a possible motive, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Family pleads for justice
Since the killing, Taylor’s family says sleep and food have been an afterthought. Danielle Taylor and other relatives told reporters they have “barely slept or eaten” and are focused on keeping the investigation from stalling out.
“I need justice for my mom. We need justice for her,” Danielle said, calling on anyone who knows something to step up and contact detectives, according to Atlanta News First.
Neighbors remember her as a 'watchful eye'
On this Grove Park block, people did not just know Taylor, they depended on her. Neighbors described her as a “watchful eye” who spent time on her porch keeping an eye on neighborhood children and often opened her door to anyone who needed a little help or a place to sit for a while.
That image has made her death especially hard to process. Community members told reporters the loss is jarring and said they are cooperating with investigators as they canvass the area, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
How to help
Officials and Taylor’s family are asking anyone who might know something - or who has even a small piece of information - to contact Atlanta police or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or via StopCrimeATL.org, as outlined by Atlanta News First.
Detectives are still processing evidence and have asked residents to check any doorbell camera or dash-cam footage from Jan. 17 that might help fill in the gaps of what happened to Tracey Taylor inside her West Atlanta home.
