A routine late-morning wait at a Metro stop in Los Angeles’ Westlake neighborhood turned deadly Wednesday when a man was shot and killed after an apparent argument, police said. The shooting happened around 11:40 a.m. at 3rd Street and Lucas Avenue, and first responders found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds at the bus stop, where he was pronounced dead at the scene as officers fanned out to search for those involved.
According to NBC Los Angeles, the gunfire erupted outside a Metro bus. The Los Angeles Fire Department said the victim, who was wearing a black shirt and shorts, was not taken to a hospital. LAPD investigators said the shooting followed an altercation between the victim and two suspects who took off before officers arrived.
Police Searching For Two Suspects
CBS Los Angeles reports that the emergency call came in at about 11:39 a.m., and detectives quickly zeroed in on a parked Metro bus that may hold crucial video and witness accounts. LAPD confirmed that two suspects were involved in the fight with the victim and remained at large on Wednesday afternoon while investigators canvassed nearby businesses and pulled surveillance footage, hoping to track where the pair fled.
Investigation And Transit Context
Police said they were still trying to determine what set off the altercation, and no suspect descriptions had been released as of Wednesday afternoon, according to NBC Los Angeles. Officials urged anyone who saw what happened or who recorded video to contact the LAPD so detectives can piece together how a dispute at a busy bus stop escalated into a deadly shooting.
Investigators from the LAPD’s Central Division remained at the scene into the afternoon, processing evidence and speaking with riders and nearby workers, CBS Los Angeles reports. Detectives continued to canvass the neighborhood for additional security footage and witnesses who might help identify the two suspects and clarify the sequence of events leading up to the killing.
