A Guthrie woman is in recovery after a harrowing encounter this past Wednesday which resulted in multiple gunshot wounds, leading to a high-speed police pursuit, and the subsequent arrest of 24-year-old Michael Adeniran. In a scene reminiscent of a high-stakes action film, authorities managed to halt Adeniran's flight on Interstate 35 after he reportedly hit speeds over 110 mph in a black SUV, as reported by KOCO 5.
Details emerge that the victim was simply eating lunch in her vehicle before her work shift when Adeniran, with whom she had a brief prior relationship, opened fire on her, according to KOCO 5. Guthrie Police Department Sgt. Anthony Gibbs firmly conveyed the department's determination in a statement obtained by KOCO 5, "We're not going to stop pursuing, We will get you." This incident is alleged to have stemmed from an earlier stalking behavior by Adeniran.
The pursuit initiated after officers located Adeniran’s vehicle which led them on a chase along State Highway 33 and southbound I-35, terminating by the Kilpatrick Turnpike, as reported by OKC FOX. Adeniran is being charged with intent to kill, stalking and felony eluding.
Despite the serious nature of her injuries, the woman who endured the attack showed great resilience. Although wounded, she managed to secure her own safety before Guthrie police officers found her in an alleyway, where she was consequently taken to a metro area hospital. While the pursuit and the scant details of the domestic disturbance have stirred local and national attention, the unnamed victim holds to a narrative of survival, according to a News 9 report.
In the wake of the crime that punctured the quiet of a Guthrie afternoon, a GoFundMe was created in support of the victim, offering a chance for the community to gather behind her as she faces a journey of recovery. Michael Adeniran, meanwhile, awaits formal charges, his actions serving as a grim reminder of the violence that can lurk behind the facade of the everyday.
