Two suspects are on the run after, police say, they deliberately rammed a driver on Interstate 610 in New Orleans and stole his car in a late-night stickup that turned a routine drive into a crime scene.
According to New Orleans police, the carjacking happened around 9:28 p.m. on Jan. 22 near the Louisa Street exit. A black vehicle hit the rear of the victim’s car and forced him to stop. After the collision, one suspect, reportedly armed, ordered the victim to empty his pockets and took his belongings, including his car keys.
Police later released photos of one of the suspects and the vehicle used in the crash, described as a black, two-door 2013 Honda Accord, and asked the public for help identifying them, according to WWL-TV. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Second District detectives at 504-658-6030. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
How the carjacking unfolded
Police say the victim was driving eastbound on I-610 near the Louisa Street exit when the black vehicle rear-ended him, forcing him to pull over. After the crash, a person in the other car, later shown in photos released by investigators, displayed a weapon and demanded the victim’s possessions, according to police accounts. Using the stolen keys, the suspects then took the victim’s car and fled, while the other vehicle also left the scene.
Where this fits in city trends
