A 55-year-old man was shoved onto the tracks at the Jay Street–MetroTech subway station in downtown Brooklyn on Thursday, leaving commuters rattled and detectives fanning out through the station for witnesses. The victim, who suffered a head laceration, was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition, according to police. The investigation is active.
According to PIX11, the NYPD has released surveillance images of a man believed to be the suspect, described as in his 40s and last seen wearing a black jacket and gray hoodie. The outlet reports the assault occurred on Feb. 26 and that investigators are treating the case as ongoing.
The NYPD urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or to text 274637 (CRIMES) with the code TIP577, per NYPD. Tips can also be submitted through the department’s Crime Stoppers portal, and detectives are asking riders who recorded the incident on their phones to come forward.
The episode adds to a string of unprovoked platform shoves reported this year, including a January incident at the 36th Street station in Sunset Park where a 35-year-old man was pushed onto the tracks and hospitalized, as reported by Patch. Transit safety remains a focal point as authorities review footage and seek witnesses to similar attacks.
Investigation under way
Detectives told PIX11 they are reviewing surveillance video from the station and asking anyone with cellphone footage to contact investigators. No arrests had been announced as of Friday, and the NYPD said the probe remains active.
