Residents of Jones, Oklahoma, may notice brown or discolored water or changes in water pressure. This is due to the Jones Fire Department conducting routine hydrant flow testing to check water pressure and flow rates, as reported by the Town of Jones.
Hydrant flow testing ensures fire hydrants are in good working order for emergencies. Sediments in the water lines can get stirred up during the process, causing temporary water anomalies, as stated by the Town of Jones.
According to the Town of Jones on their Facebook page, discolored water is temporary and usually clears within 10–15 minutes, but can take up to 24 hours. Residents should wait to do laundry or use dishwashers until it is clear. If water pressure is low, check and clean faucet aerators
