A Jefferson Parish man has been charged with federal mail theft, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle. Devin Hutton of Kenner, Louisiana, was indicted on Thursday last week, for allegedly stealing mail from mailboxes at an apartment complex in Metairie, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office release

If convicted, Hutton faces a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison, followed by as many as three years of supervised release. He could also be fined up to $250,000 and required to pay a mandatory $100 special assessment. Federal prosecutors emphasized that the indictment is an allegation, and Hutton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine M. Calogero of the General Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case. Further updates are expected from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
