A St. Cloud man is facing a felony robbery charge after police say a trip to a north-side NAPA Auto Parts turned into a knife scare and a quick arrest. Officers later tracked the suspect to a nearby residence, and he remains in the Stearns County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 13.
How staff say the theft unfolded
According to WJON, employees told police the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Tristan Roy, spent about 45 minutes in the store before leaving with several pairs of Mechanix work gloves and a red-and-black bolt cutter. A worker followed him outside and asked him to return the items. Investigators say the man then ran into an alley when he was confronted.
Police response and arrest
Officers later responded to a report of a suspicious person and found a man matching the employee's description who was wearing black pants, a black hoodie and a red facemask and carrying a knife with a green handle in a leather sheath, according to WJON. The charging complaint includes the remark the defendant allegedly made to the employee, "Don't (expletive) with me, I have a knife," as he ran from the scene. Roy is being held at the Stearns County Jail while the case moves forward.
What’s next
Roy has been booked on a felony robbery charge and is scheduled to appear in court on March 13. The charging document is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
