After 35 years perched above the cobblestones of Via Rodeo, 208 Rodeo Restaurant is calling it quits this March. The longtime Beverly Hills bistro, which grew from a 1991 gourmet sandwich counter into a full-service restaurant popular with shoppers, tourists and special-occasion diners, says a drawn-out standoff with its landlord left no real way to stay put on Rodeo Drive.
As reported by WhatNow, the restaurant broke the news on Instagram, writing, “After 35 years, we are heartbroken to share that our restaurant will be closing this March.” The post thanked employees and customers for decades of support but stopped short of naming a final day of service.
The spot opened in 1991 as a gourmet sandwich shop before evolving into the all-day California bistro regulars know today. The business lists its address as 208 N Rodeo Dr on its website. According to 208 Rodeo, its patio looks out over the Two Rodeo pedestrian alley and the Beverly Wilshire hotel, a vantage point that turned the terrace into one of the city’s classic people-watching perches.
Owners Point To Landlord Dispute
Owners say an ongoing dispute with the landlord made it impossible to keep operating at the current site. As reported by Westside Today, the public announcement did not identify the landlord and offered no hints about whether 208 Rodeo might try to reopen somewhere else.
What The Loss Means For Via Rodeo
Two Rodeo’s Via Rodeo is a compact, tourist-friendly promenade known for high-end shops and alfresco dining, and 208 Rodeo has been part of that backdrop for decades. The Los Angeles Times has listed Via Rodeo and 208 Rodeo among Rodeo Drive’s signature stops and highlighted the terrace as a textbook Beverly Hills people-watching spot. As WhatNow reports, once the closure was announced, patrons and longtime regulars flooded the comments with memories and well-wishes.
For now, there is still no specific final service date beyond “this March,” and no relocation plans have been revealed. Owners have asked guests for patience while they consider next steps. As Westside Today notes, the restaurant expressed deep gratitude to staff and customers but shared little about whether the 208 Rodeo name might reappear in a new zip code.
