A late-night rollover on northbound State Road 429 near Ocoee-Apopka Road on Thursday left one passenger dead and three others injured, officials said. The single-vehicle crash shut down the northbound lanes for hours and drew a heavy multi-agency emergency response. Apopka police have opened an active investigation into what caused the pickup truck to flip.
The pickup was occupied by a 21-year-old driver and five passengers, ages 41, 24, 23, 42 and 28, according to authorities. Two occupants were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center under trauma alerts, and two others were transported to AdventHealth Apopka. The 42-year-old passenger was ejected and later pronounced deceased at AdventHealth Apopka, and a second ejected passenger survived. Northbound SR-429 was closed from about 9:11 p.m. to roughly 1:04 a.m. while crews cleared the scene, according to The Apopka Chief.
Victims Taken To Apopka And Orlando Hospitals
Two of the injured were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, the region’s primary trauma hospital, while other crash victims were treated at AdventHealth Apopka. AdventHealth lists its Apopka campus at 2100 Ocoee Apopka Road, and Orlando Regional Medical Center is Orlando Health’s downtown trauma facility, per AdventHealth Apopka and Orlando Regional Medical Center.
How To Obtain The Official Crash Report
Crash reports for incidents on Florida roadways are filed with the state and can be purchased online, with access to recent reports generally limited to those involved for the first 60 days. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles maintains the statewide crash portal, with guidance on requesting reports available through the Florida Crash Portal.
This Stretch Of SR-429 Has A History Of Closures
State Road 429 has repeatedly been the site of serious collisions and traffic stoppages, including previous rollovers and vehicle fires on the northbound side near the Ocoee-Apopka Road exit. Local broadcasters and news outlets have regularly reported on crashes that sparked lengthy closures and large emergency responses along the corridor; see earlier coverage from WFTV for a prior example.
Police Say The Investigation Is Ongoing
The Apopka Police Department is leading the investigation, and anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact APD through its non-emergency line or the tip channels listed on the department’s website at Apopka Police. For official records and crash report copies once they are filed with the state, the Florida Crash Portal remains the designated resource for purchasing reports.
