Downtown St. Petersburg is about to get packed. Localtopia, billed as the city’s largest celebration of independent businesses, rolls back into Williams Park this Saturday with more than 300 local vendors, live music and family activities. The free festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and organizers are already warning that downtown will be busy, urging visitors to lean on transit, bike valet or rideshare instead of circling the block for curbside parking.

Transit, Trolley And Bike Valet

According to the event’s official rundown, the festival runs this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature more than 300 vendors spread around Williams Park. To help keep cars out of the crunch, the SunRunner will operate fare free for Localtopia day and the Central Avenue Trolley will run free between the Pier and Grand Central Station, organizers say. The free rides are meant to cut congestion and make it easier for visitors to get to the park without driving.

The St. Petersburg Chamber notes the nearest SunRunner stops are at 1st Avenue and 5th Street, both north and south, and a new downtown stop at 1st Avenue and 1st Street North will put riders even closer to the park, according to the St. Petersburg Chamber. Free bike valet will be posted at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 2nd Street North, and rideshare pickup and drop off is planned at the corner of 4th Street and 2nd Avenue North.

Road Closures And Parking

The city has published a traffic advisory listing multiple street closures around Williams Park for the festival footprint, including 2nd Avenue between 2nd and 4th Streets, 3rd Street between 1st and 3rd Avenues, and the old bus lane on 4th Street, according to City of St. Petersburg. The festival’s event map also shows a new closure on 2nd Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues and notes that on street parking near the park will be limited. Organizers point people to nearby garages such as the South Core Garage, Sundial St. Pete Garage and the Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement garage for accessible parking.

Tips For Attendees

Arrive early, as crowds build through the afternoon, and give yourself extra time if you plan to take transit or a rideshare, according to the St. Petersburg Chamber. Pack layers, since it can be breezy downtown, bring a reusable water bottle, and be ready to support small vendors instead of banking on easy street parking.

Localtopia is organized by Keep Saint Petersburg Local and is free to attend. If you go, plan your route in advance and consider the SunRunner, trolley or bike valet to help keep the day smoother for everyone.
