
A man was wounded this morning in a machete attack in Mission Valley, according to San Diego police, and was rushed to UC San Diego Medical Center with a head injury.
Patrol officers were called shortly after 9 AM to the 2300 block of Hotel Circle South, where they found the victim bleeding from the head while the attacker was nowhere in sight, SDPD Sgt. Saum Poorsaleh said. The man was taken to UCSD Medical Center, and the severity of his injuries was not immediately known. Authorities were still searching for the suspect around midday, according to 10News.
Police description and status
The assailant was described as a tall man believed to be in his 40s or 50s, and Poorsaleh said he remained at large at midday. Police said both men were transients who knew each other, and investigators had not yet determined a motive. Detectives continued to investigate and interview possible witnesses, per 10News.

The Hotel Circle corridor has been the backdrop for other serious incidents in recent years, drawing frequent police responses. A deadly shooting at the Handlery Hotel in March 2025 that left one man dead and another wounded sparked a large investigation and an arrest, as reported by local outlets, including the Times of San Diego.
