A high-speed chase that ripped through the streets of Wayne County concluded with a 34-year-old man in custody after Michigan State Police, aided by a helicopter, pursued a vehicle due to alleged traffic violations.
The incident, which unfolded on Saturday night, began when Allen Park police attempted to stop the car, as reported by CBS News. The driver, along with a 23-year-old passenger, led law enforcement on a chase that resulted in the deployment of a taser and the discovery of narcotics and brass knuckles upon searching the vehicle, while the chase itself was monitored from above by a helicopter, and despite police disengaging the vehicle continued to be tracked until it finally halted on Deacon Street near Miami Street.
After the car stopped, both occupants attempted to flee on foot but were swiftly apprehended, with a statement obtained by Clickondetroit indicating that the passenger was quickly caught, interviewed at the scene, and then released. The driver—whose attempted escape through a local neighborhood was cut short due to the tasering—was subsequently taken to a hospital for evaluation before being lodged in jail.
An ongoing investigation is taking place with the charger against the driver pending prosecutor review, as noted by WILX, which described how the driver ran through a neighborhood, and police used a taser to stop him, then when officers searched the car they found drugs and a pair of brass knuckles, culminating in a dramatic close to an otherwise standard violation of traffic laws.
