Midday gunfire rattled Algiers last week, and now New Orleans police want the public’s help identifying a man they believe can help explain what went down. Investigators say two adult males exchanged gunfire around 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday in the 3500 block of General de Gaulle Drive. On Wednesday, New Orleans Police Department released a photo of a man they think has crucial information about that shootout. Detectives stressed that the person pictured is not wanted for any crime and is being sought strictly for investigative purposes as they chase down leads.
Police release photo and ask for tips
According to the New Orleans Police Department, the shooting unfolded at about 1:50 p.m. on Feb. 10 and involved an exchange of gunfire between two adult males along General de Gaulle Drive.
In the department’s post, officers say the man in the released image “is believed to possess information important to the investigation” and emphasize that he “is not currently wanted for any crime.” Police did not release any additional details on possible injuries, arrests, or a motive in the online statement.
How to help investigators
Anyone who recognizes the man in the photo or knows anything about the shooting is asked to contact Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040.
Tipsters who prefer to stay anonymous can reach out to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. The Crimestoppers site notes its tip line operates 24/7 and forwards information directly to law enforcement. Police also urged anyone who might have video or other evidence from the area around the time of the shooting to share it with detectives.
General de Gaulle Drive has seen past shootings
The same stretch of General de Gaulle Drive in Algiers has been the backdrop for other shootings and violent incidents in recent years, including a deadly shooting reported on the 3500 block in March 2025. Local coverage of earlier violence has highlighted ongoing safety concerns along that corridor, according to reporting by FOX 8.
In their social media post, NOPD said investigators will continue to follow leads and review any tips or footage that come in, and that no further details were available at the time. Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives or Crimestoppers as outlined above.
