Midtown Oklahoma City's Uptown 23rd strip just landed a new late-night option: Formosa Street Food & Bar, an izakaya-style Taiwanese street food spot from local musician-turned-chef Ivan Wong. Drawing on family recipes, Wong serves up small-plate flavors like dumplings, skewers and noodle bowls in a buzzy, compact dining room that is built with post-show crowds in mind. A focused cocktail program rounds it out, giving Uptown 23rd the kind of after-hours bites the neighborhood has been missing.
As featured on KOKH's Living Oklahoma "Flight By Fork" segment, Wong explained that many of the dishes come straight from his grandmother's cooking and prepared a sampler spread for the show. The TV feature shines a light on Formosa's menu and its late-night bar setup.
Formosa's website lists the restaurant at 427 NW 23rd St. It posts hours as Monday through Saturday, 4 p.m. to 11:45 p.m., and Sunday, 4 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. For menus, hours and to-go orders, see Formosa Street Food & Bar.
Menu highlights
Local critics and early diners are already singling out several standouts: basil popcorn chicken, pan-fried pork soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings in chili oil and a rich beef noodle bowl. Oklahoma Magazine has called many of those plates must-try items. Portions are intentionally snack-friendly so groups can mix and match small plates and cover a good chunk of the menu in one visit.
Uptown 23rd and late-night eats
Formosa fills a well-known gap on Uptown 23rd by bringing in late-night, budget-conscious small plates that pair easily with drinks after concerts or events, a role local food writers say the district has been edging toward. Eating OKC has tracked the neighborhood's expanding food scene and notes that spots like Formosa help turn the strip into more of a full-service evening destination.
