Missouri’s Improve I-70 Program is preparing to widen a section of Interstate 70 between Boonville and Rocheport. Capital Paving and Construction has been selected for the project, which will add a third lane in both eastbound and westbound directions. The design, completed by Burns & McDonnell with a bid just over $100 million, will follow a traditional design-bid-build approach, where the plans are finalized before construction begins, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Public input gathered during July 2025 helped shape the project’s design, and the groundbreaking is scheduled for spring 2026. Construction is expected to begin in the same season, with completion targeted by the end of 2028. Under Missouri’s fiscal year 2024 budget, nearly 200 miles of I-70 from Blue Springs to Wentzville will be widened to three lanes, with $2.8 billion in General Revenue allocated to the project.

The Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission (MHTC) selected a contractor to carry out improvements on the 13-mile stretch of I-70 between the Lance Corporal Leon Deraps Missouri River Bridge at Rocheport and Missouri Route 5 in Boonville. The project is designed to enhance traffic flow and freight movement along this section of the interstate.

Public meeting materials and project plans are available on the project website for those interested in more details.
